Carpeting Stairs

Carpet squares, tiles, and samples for homes and commercial use.

Carpeting stairs is a wise move, especially in a house with children.  The softness of the carpet could easily minimize the blow of any injuries, and it generally makes for a nice, homey look in any setting.

As far as carpeting stairs is concerned, there are two ways you can go about doing the job.  If you’re less experienced in such endeavors, you’ll probably want to look into hiring someone to take on the job.  There are plenty of carpet layers that should be more than happy to do the job for you.

Look for some local options, which you can probably even find online if you’re at a loss for where to look.  From there, you’ll most likely get a quote as to how much the job will cost and any other requirements they’ll need from you.

There are two options that you’ll have as far as carpet tiles for stairs are concerned.  First, there’s the kind that covers the middle of the stairs, and it’s generally measured with a typical width of 690 mm.  This will leave the wood on your stairs exposed on both sides, and you’ve probably seen stair carpeting like this in many different settings.

The other possibility for carpeting stairs is to try to find carpeting that covers the entire stair.  Being that the sizing requirements for such carpeting will be customized to fit the dimensions of your stairs, this style is generally more difficult to find and implement.  You’ve likely seen stairs with carpets before, so you should know that it’s very well possible to do.  You’ll just need to be prepared to pay a bit more money for the job, and you’ll need to find the services of a carpet layer who can install whole carpets on stairs.

While it’s very well possible to install carpet on stairs yourself, the idea of trying to do the job while covering the stairs fully is probably out of the realm of possibility, unless you really do have adequate experience with such endeavors.

On the other hand, you shouldn’t have much of a problem installing the partial carpeting in strips, and you can definitely consider doing such a thing if you’re up for the challenge.  There are many tutorials online that should help to guide you through the job.  Through a combination of these and some logical intuition, getting the job done shouldn’t be much trouble if you’re experienced in the world of DIY jobs.

As you can see, there are two ways you can go about doing things.  If you want to go the stair runner route, look into some carpeting options online and see what you can find.  There are many great deals out there, and you shouldn’t have much trouble finding an item on sale as a result.

Otherwise, visit your local home improvement store or search online for specialty retailers who offer full stairway carpeting solutions.  From there, determine your needs and the differences in pricing to see which option may be best for your particular situation.
